Abstract
This article examines the evolving role of humanistic pharmacists in the era of digital healthcare. Modern healthcare is changing rapidly, and the pharmacists are asked to adjust their role as the healthcare system transitions to a patient-centered model. It is suggested that pharmacists should transcend the conventional, medicine-centered paradigm and embrace a more humanistic approach that includes the psychological and social factors of the patient. With the rising prevalence of chronic diseases and mental health issues in the modern society, the importance of lifestyle modifications by patients is underscored. Within this framework, the concept of ¡°Mentor Pharmacist¡± is introduced. These professionals are envisioned to provide comprehensive health management, addressing not just the physical aspects of patient care, but also encompassing psychological and social factors. A key component of this approach is the development of ¡°narrative competence,¡± which serves to bridge the gap between patients¡¯ subjective experiences and the objective knowledge possessed by healthcare professionals. To achieve this, we propose the analysis of case studies from narrative medicine and practices observed in the department of pharmacy, Seoul National University Hospital, The anticipated outcome of the paradigm shift is a heightened societal and public recognition of pharmacists as integral and respected members of the healthcare community.
